Nate started running track this year to try push up his endurance for soccer.
It has been so fun to watch him be so dedicated to something he thought he couldn't do. I respect the kids who are invested in track. They are all there by choice. No one makes them stay after school 4 days a week and push themselves. Tuesday was the last meet before Alpine Days and it was so fun to watch so many of the boys from Nate's soccer team all competing together in one place. I especially got a kick out of the trash talk Thomas Heaps just took. He plays defense with Nate and is a remarkable runner. He just smiled and shook his head then proceeded to blow past every one of the boys on the track and win every event he participated in with ease.
Nate is a competitive kid. He really cares about success, which can be a great thing and a hard thing all at the same time. He decided the best way to ensure a spot for himself at Alpine Days was to compete in the high jump. It was actually a smart move for him because he is actually quite good at jumping. He hasn't got the form down yet but at the 2 meets he jumped in, he took 2nd over-all. Not too bad for a first time jumper!
One of the other events that he has done well in is the 4 X 400 relay.
It is so exciting to know other people are pushing him for the same things!
I know that he the friends he has, has a huge impact on the person he is and I couldn't be more grateful for several of them that he gets to be around daily.
This is the 800 he is getting ready to run. He is a fantastic sprinter!
The 800 gets a little hard for him in the last curve.
He gets so nervous...
I don't know what I'd do without this kid! I love him so much and I am so proud of the young man he is!
14 has been a good year for him. I was worried that 8th grade would be rough, but he has changed a lot in the past year. He is a responsible, intelligent, hard working, sweet, funny, creative kid. I'm so proud to be his mom!
